Puffy paint
This presentation highlights my art practicum at Lincoln Elementary school. With in the presentation you will find the ups and downs of my practicum. Things that I would change for future projects that are similar and things that went well.

Lesson plans

This first lesson plan is using Puffy paint to create paintings of fruit. Puffy paint is very easy to make and the supplies can be found at the dollar store. You just mix glue, shaving cream, and food coloring into a bowl to get the paint. If you tell the kids right off from the start not to make a mess then this lesson will be simpler to do without worrying about a huge mess.

On this one I had the kids create a self portrait using a template of a cell phone screen. Since due to technology increase younger children are learning about technology trends. By using the "selfie" trend I tried to get the kids to be more connected with a term they are familiar with.

This lesson plan is using an integrated subject with arts I decided to use math. I integrated shapes like quadrilaterals to create robots. It encourages the children to define and be familiarized with the mathematical terms and give them a hands on experience to visually represent the terms in a more interesting way.

In class assignments
Batik
For this I tried to make leaves with a flower in the middle. I added to much detail on the leaves part that when I added the glue it would blend in together making huge circles instead of the details I had. The other problem I had was that I applied the glue on top of the outline of the painting and the sharpie ended up transferring on to the fabric. I think this would be a cool project it just takes practice to get it right. Even doing it on a t-shirt for the kids but it would end up being really expensive.

Light painting
I didn't realize till now but if you look closely at the top middle you can see the eyes of the person that helped me. I think this assignment was fun the only difficulty is finding a place that is dark enough to do it. I wanted to do this light painting outside but there is lots of light out side where I live. The person I worked with this on had lots of fun and we even started to make it a game. This was a fun project.

Zetangled
Out of all the assignments in this class this one turned out to be the hardest for me. I did the scratch board three times with each time adding a different amount of soap and tempera paper. When I would go to scratch it and create the Zetangled look it would not get. This one was the one paper that somewhat got the black paint but it was still hard to scratch with out ripping the paper.

Milk jug mask/Other mask
The first picture is the milk jug mask that is supposed to resemble and African mask. The one thing I recommend if doing this project with children don't let them put on the mask right away. You have to let it dry or else the smell of shoe polish would be to strong.
For the other mask I decided to use an egg carton. I highly recommend this one when working with younger kids. As you can see the eye holes are really close together and small so when you put this mask on it looks really silly. With children they are sure to get a laugh seeing everyone with their masks on.
Alien name
My Alien is beautiful because she wears the royal flowers upon her head. She is also adorned with flowers on her body. She has a shiny baby blue belt signifying the royal family she comes from. Although the environment is dark and somewhat foggy she tends to stand out with the shininess of her belt. She is the princess of the spaceships and stands in the middle and watches the spaceships fly past her.

Printmaking x2
On this one I ended up doing have of one print on each paper. The first print that I decided to work with is the potato print. The second one is using chalk and construction paper to outline the shapes. If I had to choose a print making method I would choose the potato method just because it turned out more detailed and you can do several different designs with potatoes.

Mandala
For the mandala I tried to incorporate symbols and colors that had significance to me. In the middle I have a butterfly because that is the symbol of my sorority that I am an active member for. The next three circles have either red, white, or blue this is to demonstrate my culture. The first one that I did had more symbols but did not look like a mandala any more. This one has the structure of a mandala with my added symbols.

Notan foil square
For this project I would say was the one that I did not like how it turned out but this was my second attempt with no improvements. In the first one I added lots of textures like pennys and buttons but with the tin foil it was hard to define it. I also had a challenge because I only had three colors of sharpies, I tried to use other resources but none of the paint would stick on the tin foil.

100 color challenge
For this assignment I did it with my boyfriend he enjoyed working on a project with me. I think the best part was working with paint and just coming up with different colors. A lot of the time he would make a color and a second after I made the same color or vice versa so we had to add shades into so it would look different. I also realized that there was an extra set of 10 so I left the bottom right blank.

Cardboard Construction
With the cardboard construction I decided to use the primary colors just because I feel with children these are the colors to stand out more. This was the third attempt at making a cardboard construction. In the first one I left the paint a little messy and the background was very distracting. I then got the hang of taking a picture and getting a background that is perfect for pictures.
